Per your suggestion, I went back to the man page (as well as some other
reading). This switch (-t) doesn't seem to do what I need. By itself, it
doesn't even seem to work. The following line does produce a shutdown at
11:00 pm.

55 22    * * *    root    /sbin/shutdown -h +5 'No computer past 11'
