[QCLUG] KDE 4 on OS X

I too agree that Vista is more of a clone of a lot of the Open Source GUI's.

As for KDE running on Window$ - remember, that it must still run ON TOP of
Window$ as M$ has integrated the environment so deeply into the kernel. To
be quite frank, with the marketing and development path that M$ has taken
and is taking, they would be silly to allow any other environment to operate
on top of their kernel and have access to the raw kernel for compiling just
to get rid of their own environment. As we all are aware, M$ markets
Window$ (the environment + the kernel) - not just the kernel as with Linux
and BSD. If M$ was to allow others like KDE and Gnome to put their
environments directly on top of the kernel without the M$ environment, then
M$ would have to spend less time on their version of eye candy and more time
on the things that matter most such as security and stability.

As for KDE running on OSX - Isn't OSX sitting on top of BSD already??? That
being the case, then it would not be surprising to see KDE working on a Mac.

BTW, while on the subject of M$ and GNU - Has anyone noticed that it is
possible to run a lot of the same command line commands within Vista that we
are familiar with in Linux/Unix and BSD? I inadvertently typed "ls" in a
Window$ shell and got the same response I would have gotten from a Linux
box. I don't know if this is something that has been available for a while
with DOS/Window$ or is new. If it is new then why are they going to POSIX
command structure? Just curious.

:)
Mike

I thinks Microsoft would have a fit to learn KDE would work visa via the
windows
kernel. Microsoft does many things, but allowing competition to work with
their
software isn't one of them.

ps. Am I the only one that thinks vista is nothing but a kde clone?
