[QCLUG] buying laptop from dell

Heh, that reminds me of the last time I looked into buying a computer at
Best Buy. The salesman thought I was totally insane because I wanted one
without a hard drive full of Micro$oft Vista. He kept telling me how great
Vista is and how secure, yada, yada.
Or better yet, when XP first came out and I had this guy from M$ try to
convince me that XP did not sit on top of DOS. He went so far as to tell me
that the cmd window that you can get on XP was an emulator that sits on top
of XP. Well, I convinced him that if it was indeed an "emulator" that that
XP didn't sit on top of DOS, then we could just rename a couple of obvious
DOS files and XP would still boot. I didn't stick around long enough to see
if he had to reinstall or just rescue mode from the CD-ROM, but the look on
his face was priceless when the computer gave him a black screen with the
white letters saying "Operating system not found." Naturally I had to throw
in there the old, "well, I guess I was right and XP does sit on top of DOS."
Evil of me, I know, but there are just some people that are totally asking
for a headache.
Michael

I'm very satisfied with my dell laptop I purchased about a year ago. I
would doubt it Dell is going out of business anytime soon, considering
this problematic shipping delays such as the one you've encountered are
probably an indicator of too much business and not having enough
employees to keep up with demand.
My biggest complaint with Dell would have to be their annoying pushing
salespeople being super adamant about me buying hardware warranties or
"home support" to help me "remove viruses". I conversed with her for a
good 10 minutes, repeatedly stating that I'm not interested and she kept
telling me to "think about it". So, yeah.. phone people = suck,
hardware itself = pretty satisfactory.

You could always throw this in Dell's face, maybe.. Nice little FTC
30-day rule:
