Rob-

Xen is actually a virtualization platform that is by default included in the SuSE 10.2 distribution. It is used to run virtual machines using the open source Xen Hypervisor (check it out at xen.org).

The Xen grub boot loader option loads a specially modified kernel that is required in order to use Xen virtualization. This is the only benefit in using the Xen kernel.

Does this answer your question?

Subject: [QCLUG] grub loader question SuSE 10.2 vs SuSE 10.2 ( Xen )

Hello lug,

I am working an R^3 ( R-Cubed ) supplied with SuSE. The grub loader
offers the default option of SuSE 10.2. Then on the next line down it
offers SuSE 10.2 (Xen).

Is not Xen an emulator package? I always select the default. What is
the second option, what is its typical use? What is the advantage
booting 10.2 ( Xen ) instead of the default SuSE 10.2?

Cordially, Rob Mohr
