search for some other with the problem
ubuntu 7.10 nvidia 7300 compiz hard lock
ive noticed other drivers can interact to cause problems with nvidia
drivers like some malfunctioning wifi cards. you can also install envy
and try to install the newest nvidia drivers, try to stress test on 3d
game if that works ok i would wait for compiz to be updated with the
possible fix if 3d games run fine ( like running doom3 or quake4 demos
)

 hmm heres a thread that mentions a couple problem down a lil bit
mentions a bug with hard lock with nvidia 7XXX xcards odd i have a
7600 and no problems
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/144732
very long long thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3746154
this one hits 7300 cards ... ( seems that 7300 has bugs maybe a
driver issue try envy )
