Thank you for the suggestion about the sound. The
basic problem is... No sound in Mandriva, at all.
This is one of the problems I still see with Linux.
So, how do you check for the version of alsa, what is
alsa, how do you check what modules are loading?
(Sorry, it is not obvious to me where these things
might be checked, and the differences in Ubuntu and
Mandriva (one of the reasons I am preferring Mandriva,
the hardware and software GUI tools are more
accessible. Though I am still not terribly familiar
with them. Not to mention the cli is not something I
feel comfortable in in Linux yet.) I am not certain
where I might look.
I have considered the Fat32 option. But right now I
have the second drive partitioned about 10GB for
Mandriva and 70GB NTFS of which about 30GB is full.
So... repartitioning might be a hassle. I don't NEED
it just yet so I can contiue to think about how best
to approach the issue.
Thank you all for your help. I have been updating and
updating and updating. Once I get all the updates for
2007.0 and then change the servers to look at 2007.1,
update, update, then change the servers to look at
2008.0, update, update... (If that doesn't work I can
reinstall, but would rather not risk dropping the
network card working, that is one of the big issues as
to why I am back on Mandriva instead of
Ubuntu/Kubuntu.)
