As this FAQ notes, it should be *between* 1 and 2 times your available
physical memory. The more physical memory you have, the less need you have
for extra swap.
Unfortunately, the line moves over time as desktop memory usage continues to
increase; but for anyone with 1-2GB of physical RAM today, swap == RAM
should be sufficient.
