You might get different suggestions on this. I set up usually about a gig for swap. I guess I could have put /home on a separate partition, but I never have. I'd say you wouldn't need much more than 10 GB for the OS. You can get by with less, too, if you're not planning to install a lot of additional software. Myself, I do a bit of video and web development work, so allowed 40GB for my OS. The rest of my storage is on other mounted devices/partitions.

I've been testing Kubuntu (7.10) as well and I just don't like it as much as the Gnome desktop. After two weeks with Kubuntu, I ended up booting back into Gnome. I kept having problems with Dolphin. It crashed on me three or four times a day, sometimes more. I also could never get Adept Manager to work. Don't mind working with apt-get from the command line, but... who knows. Hopefully there will be some improvements in 8.04.

I hear you on VirtualBox. I was going to use it for a number of tasks, but the mouse was extremely buggy for me. So, I'll just dual-boot if I need to. The only thing I was needing to even boot into Windows for was to use a Sonicwall VPN Client. I wasn't having much luck with OpenSwan. But, work is buying me a Sonicwall Box, so... for me, I can do just everything else under Wine. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion has good support under Wine and I'm thinking of giving that a try in the next week or so, when things slow down at work.
I've been playing with Kubuntu 8.04 Beta on my laptop and tried
VirtualBox and some other stuff hoping I could get rid of Vista. I don't
like VirtualBox so will just have to do a dual boot after all. Oh, Well.
Maybe later. I still have a couple of things to look at to see if they
work with my GPS or not but my hopes aren't high. Anyway, I will be
setting the laptop back up with 7.10 (or waiting for 8.04 in about a
month) and need some advice. After my Window Vista is shrunk as far as I
can take it I have 65 GB to put Kubuntu in. When I set it up I want to
have the "/", "/home" and or course the "swap" on separate "drives".
How much of the 65 GB should I assign to the "swap" and "/"? I don't
want to crowd them but I don't want to wast space either. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have A Great Day
