<div>More info about the 2008 St. Ambrose Information Technology Showcase. Just as a general fyi, this is our second technology fair at ambrose. Last year we had a great turnout, lots of vendors/activities, and lots of giveaways (vendor swag, small electronics, tshirts, and even an iPod and new Computer). Our intended audience for the event is campus users (staff, faculty, students), and will not be publicly advertised outside of campus. We use the event as a way to raise technology awareness, show off new products, and in general get people excited about Technology. This year we are expanding the events, bringing in more outside professionals, and working within the university to identify users that use technology in unique ways. We are going to have some interesting booths this year and I really hope that the local linux group can be a part of the activities.</div>

<div>** Just as a side note our apple rep is very excited to be coming back to campus this year and I am fairly certain he will be bringing demos of the current apple toys ( iphone and Mac Air ) for those of you that would like to see them in person.</div>

<div>Mac, We have the Rogalski Center reserved from 8am until 10pm on March 19th. Most of the booths, reps, and speakers will be scheduled between 8am-6pm though we have events scheduled throughout the day and evening. The late evening (6pm-10pm) events are primarily going to be fun things like video game tournaments with prizes. We have a little bit of flexibility with setup times for the event. Most booths are going to be setting up between 7am-9am though we do have some time the night before to get the setup started. The doors will be locked up after we are done getting equipment in place, tables arranged, ethernet and power cords to where they will be needed for the morning.</div>

<div>It will be great to see some involvement from the Local LUG. So far none of the IT people or CS students I have talked to even knew that there was a local group. Perhaps you guys can bring some recruitment flyers and pick up some new members to your monthly get togethers. Since the last email I have been in contact with the St. Ambrose computer club, they are planning on putting a few machines together loaded with vmware and a plethora of different distros.</div>

<div>Does anyone else have any interesting projects that might make a good addition or perhaps work with a local company that uses technology in a creative way. I would still like to find 1 more individual that would be willing to put together a short presentation answering the basics of linux (What, why, when, how, etc), and perhaps talk about the founding principles of Open source software and alternatives.
